Do you dream of being a rich af writer? While sipping top-shelf whiskey from morning until night? And worshipped like Hey Zeus by everyone, everywhere, all at once?
Well, I sure as hell do! At least, just the first part.
You see, when I was a 26-year-old man-boy, I wanted to get rich writing.
And not just from my website copywriting services.
My dream is to earn a good living—and get paid a lot—from my creative writing. I want to share words that inspire and change lives. Words that make the world a little better. And, obviously, make me richer than a Dubai oil prince.
To achieve this bold dream, I’m embarking on a 30 Day Medium Writing Challenge—and it’s beginner friendly, btw. Which means you’re invited to try it too!
So grab a pen, blow the dust off daddy’s typewriter, or buy yourselves an Akko 3068b keyboard—I’m about to share all I know about making money as a writer on Medium. Along with how you can start your own 30-Day Medium Writing Challenge!
What is Medium.com? And is it profitable to publish your writing there?
Medium.com is like a digital Wild West for writers—minus the shootouts, but still full of gold rush dreams.
It’s a place where anyone, from bestselling authors to caffeine-fueled insomniacs (like me), can publish their thoughts, ideas, and half-baked theories for the world to see.
So, is it profitable? That depends.
Can you write consistently, hook readers, and play the Medium game?
If yes, then maybe.
If not, you’ll be another ghost in the content graveyard.
How much money can you make on Medium.com
Honestly, I have no idea.
All I really know is that the platform operates on a simple premise: readers pay a monthly subscription, and Medium shares a slice of that pie with writers based on how much engagement their articles get.
That means the more eyeballs you attract, the more money you make.
Sounds easy, right? Well, not exactly.
I started my first 30-Day Medium Writing Challenge during the COVID pandemic.
Throughout the month of April 2020, I only published 14 articles out of 30.
In other words, I failed the challenge. However, I did make money!

Obviously, $7.34 USD is nothing to brag about. Nor is it enough for me to flip the bird to my boss, quit my job, and move out of my mother’s basement. Not yet, at least.
But it’s also not nothing.
My earnings are also based on:
- 1,415 total views
- 602 total reads
Which, if we apply mathematical logical here, the value of one reader is:
= total earnings / total reads
= $7.34 / 602 reads
= $0.012 per reader
Of course, this doesn’t paint a perfect picture of my potential earnings.
Here’s the stats for my best money-making Medium post.

Based on this article alone, my earnings per reader skyrockets:
= total earnings / total reads
= $2.29 / 31
= $0.074 per reader
Holy macaroni! Did you see that!
I’ve just increased my Medium.com earning potential by 505.74%!
We’re officially working with numbers that genuinely motivate me. For context, I used to be a tree planted in Canada and I was a happy man bending over for $0.08 to $0.12 per tree.
So, let’s follow this mathematical logic even further.
Here’s my 100% realistic Medium.com Earning Potential, comparing my average and top-performing article.
Table 1. My Medium.Com Earning Potential
TOTAL READS | EARNINGS PER READER (AVG.) | EARNINGS PER READER (HIGH) |
---|---|---|
1 | $0.012 | $0.074 |
10 | $0.12 | $0.74 |
100 | $1.20 | $7.40 |
1,000 | $12.00 | $74.00 |
10,000 | $120.00 | $740.00 |
100,000 | $1,200.00 | $7,400.00 |
1,000,000 | $12,200.00 | $74,000.00 |
Based on that table, I theoretically wrote a Medium article with the earning potential of $74,000 USD!
All I have to do now is wrote 10+ articles just like it.
And get 1,000,000 readers on each to retire from the working world forever!!!
Well, before I go crazy and delusional, this seems like the perfect moment to get into the details of my 30-day Medium Writing Challenge, eh?

Step 3: Make Writing Your First Priority ☕
I treat this like my morning gym session (which I don’t do, but should)—except instead of lifting weights, I’m dropping words.
- As soon as I wake up and finish my morning routine, I write.
- Coffee in hand, distractions minimized, I publish.
- If I’m in the flow, I batch-write multiple articles so I don’t scramble every day.
This isn’t about perfection—it’s about consistency. The more you write, the better you get.
Step 4: Hit Publish. Every. Single. Day. 🏁
Stop overthinking, champe.
No more second-guessing, my friend.
Just hit publish.
- Some articles will flop.
- Some will surprise you.
- Some might make you money.
But by the end of 30 days, you’ll have a body of work, an audience, and most importantly—momentum.
